Angelique Allen
A sensory neuroscientist and science communicator
About Me.
Angelique Allen (she/her), is a PhD candidate in the Institute of Neuroscience at the University of Oregon. She is broadly interested in animal perception, and is currently studying how octopuses ‘think about what they see’, or their visual processing. She became fascinated with cephalopods as a junior at the University of Missouri, which is the same time she learned about discovery-based research and how to SCUBA dive. Now, she’s combining her interests in the underwater world and curiosities in animal perception by studying octopuses!
While Angelique loves asking questions and making discoveries about animals that are so different from us, she believes that making and publishing the discovery is just the first step scientists need to take. To educate and inspire the general public, scientists have to share their discoveries with a broader audience. To do this, Angelique puts science where people least expect it- like in a children’s book or on a beer label, and is always coming up with new ideas to make that happen!
